My awesome co-worker Keiichiro took me to his favorite Ramen place - Ramen Jiro (in Jimbocho). A few things to know about Ramen Jiro…
- You almost always have to wait at least an hour to get in.
- 50% of people who try it hate it. The other 50% love it and get addicted after 3 visits
- There are 6 Ramen Jiro’s all across Tokyo - each with distinct style and “difficulty” level. First timers should not go to “Advanced” ones as the experience might be too extreme.
- There are over 20 “Jiro Inspired” places - usually right across the street from an authentic Jiro.
- You have a “career” of eating at Jiro. Keiichiro has 12 year career there now - he considers his Jiro Skills to be intermediate.
- When you eat you should eat at the same pace as the person next to you. This allows the restaurant to have MAXIMUM efficiency if all patrons start and finish at roughly the same time.
- I COULDNT EVEN FINISH A SIZE SMALL!

Went to Shabu Shabu with Debs who was kind enough to take some pictures. Tons of restaurants here have the option for Tabehodai = All you can eat and Nomihodai = All you can drink. Its money in the bank dude.
